Food Cycler Pilot Program  – Registration Opens August 4, 2026

The RM of St. François Xavier is excited to launch the Food Cycler Municipal Pilot Program, an innovative initiative designed to help residents reduce household food waste while supporting the municipality's waste diversion and environmental sustainability goals. The pilot will evaluate how in-home food waste processing can reduce the amount of organic material being sent to the landfill, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

How the Food Cycler Works

The Food Cycler is a compact countertop appliance that transforms household food scraps into a dry, nutrient-rich by-product in as little as 4–9 hours. It works through a three-step process:

  1. Drying – Moisture is removed from food scraps. 
  2. Grinding – The dried material is ground into fine particles. 
  3. Cooling – The finished material is cooled and ready to use. 

The Food Cycler reduces the volume of food waste by up to 90%, helping to divert organic waste from the landfill. The finished by-product can be mixed into garden soil, added to a backyard compost bin, or used as a soil amendment, making it an easy way for residents to reduce waste and support a healthier environment. The unit accepts most fruit and vegetable scraps, meat, fish, poultry, eggshells, coffee grounds, and many other food wastes. It is designed for quiet, odour-controlled operation and typically costs only a few dollars per month in electricity to operate. 

A limited number of Food Cycler units are available and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible residents. Participants will receive a Food Cycler unit and will be asked to use it throughout the 12-week pilot period while tracking their usage and completing a brief survey at the end of the program. 

If you are interested in participating, we encourage you to register early, as spaces are limited. Once all available FoodCycler units have been allocated, registration will close and a waiting list will be established.
